Magnificant map of Kings Cross at British Library

The Magnificent Map of King’s Cross now hangs in the Entrance Hall.

This map of the local area was produced as part of the community programme to support the exhibition and as part of the Reveal Festival – a festival of visual arts in King’s Cross.

It is made of 16 separate canvases each depicting a separate part of the area. A number of groups and some individuals were given a canvas to create their unique interpretation of the neighbourhood.

The map includes work by The London Canal Museum, Camley Street Natural Park, University College Hospital School and Somers Town Youth Club.

I did the Canal Museum's map, on the top right hand corner of the giant map,using all the volunteers contributions in ideas and images in the form of collage .

A lovely opportunity for me to exhibit in one of favourite places the RISC's Global Cafe with wonderful space and lovely staff and fantastic food .
we had a lovely opening night with beautiful performance of :

Saam Fathi : Daf and Tanbour

I had a very successful drawing workshop on 9th with an adult group which I enjoyed very much and from the feedback I understand that others enjoyed it as well.

I would like to thank Shehnoor Ahmed and Elizabeth Ragg from RISC for organising this exhibition and workshops .

I am invited to Iranian Festival in Edinburgh from 31st Jan - 4th Feb .
The festival is being organised by the Edinburgh University Persian Society and a dedicated team of volunteers.
There are seven categories arts, books, comedy, film, food, lectures, and music with events taking place in venues across Edinburgh from 30th Jan -8th Feb.

I'm taking 18 works , which 10 of them are new works on canvas and 8 are what remained from Hejab series. The works will be exhibited in St .John's Church and There will hopefully be a chance that I could also do a drawing workshop . I'm very much looking forward to it and I'm sure its going to be a lovely experience,The organiseres which are all volunteers have been very sweet and helpful.

As far as I'm aware this the first ever Iranian festival in UK which I'm so pleased to be part of and honored to be featured alongside someone like Sharnush Parsipur.

Extremely Popular and Successful Event !

On 31st of Jan 2008 , Rumi Poetry night was taken place in National Portrait Gallery .This was a joint event by Abbaz Fiaz (member of The Persian Thursday Group), Poet In The City and National Portrait Gallery.

We had a list of almost 300 people that were keen to attend the event when the space capacity was only 160 ,therefore another event was organized on 6th of March so that we could place the rest of the audience for that night .
It was a nightmare as we had to turn away many of our audience and promise to place them for the second event, of course we had exactly the same problem for the second event ,but everything went smooth at the end.
The poems were interpreted to English by Sir Robert Maxwell with help of Abbaz Faiz , the translation was unbelievably beautiful and the absolute Rumi spirit within the words could be felt easily. Abbas Faiz, whom had done the selection of poems, was the speaker of the night . He gave a brief intro to Rumi's life and poetry and pointed out interesting facts about Rumi's importance and popularity in today's Iranian's society.

After the readings ,the audience had the bounce of enjoying the performance of Parvin Cox and two other musicians which gave the night a beautiful finishing touch. On the second event, 6th March , we were repeating the same program with slight changes, this time we had Lobat Vala with us in our Farsi reading group which a great treat also Esmat Faiz and Dunken Fisher joined our English reading group.

Pink fish Ensemble performance was part of the live art events that were organised by Steve Moyes which was part of the monthly live art events which takes place on the last Tuesday of every month at the Foundry.
It was an unforgettable evening for all of us and we had a beautiful exchange of energy with each other and the brilliant musicians: Alison Blunt (violin),Ivor Kallin (viola),Sandy Kindness (clarinets, saxophones),Steve Moyes (cello,flute).

During this performance FPE created a surgery atmosphere by placing one of the member on the operation table while the other members were performing operation like painting on her .The atmosphere was changed into a living space after the brake ,the painted patient were moving around while the other member kept painting her .

Part of the PFE performance was live poetry which was written and performed live on the spot by David Blank.

Paint Surgery

Jezebel found herself walking...

Steps
The Cellar

Since she was a child Jezebel
had had a fascination and fear both
of that dark hole

Hooded Witches by the fire , black cats everywhere , horrifying ring master with colourful voodoo stick , beautiful mysterious singer with the voice of angel but an out fit of a witch, possessed looking musicians, an alter full of magick tool, scary clowns as loud as thunder,white faced crowed with astonished eyes , ghost hunt from people's pockets , presence of ancient Gods and goddesses, driven magicians,

wine soaked dead bread for sacrament

rush of creative blood in your veins

Great night which was made possible by the collaboration of brilliant musicians: Steve Moyes (Guitar), Stuart Fisher (electronics, environmental sounds), David Fowler (drums, percussion) and Evrah with her magical and stunning voice , and the beautiful and horrifying clowns whom were the most vital element of this strange mix : Sean and Koogie , the rebel clowns.

with the clowns beautiful energy and witty sense of humour and haunting music a stunning environment were created , a perfect cradle for our performance ritual.
The effect has been so powerful that many of the members of audience were very terrified , we found it very enjoyable and funny in places although our Ring Master was absolutely terrifying for many people. I didn't matter if you believed magick or not, you would have still been moved by it.
The confusion was continued by the excellent performance of Foolish People , the organiser of the event .It was great experience and great chance to be working side by side with FP.

They presented their work about women of traditions .The exhibition were combined with Imagin No borders exhibition on the following week, October 14th .

It was an exhibition of paintings by Diane Carriere ,photographs by Rosy Torres and photographs by Tim Arroyo."

for the preview of our show we were part of Halsted Open Studios which lasted for 3 days. about 55 studios were taking part and a huge number of visitors were attracted.
In our main show in D'last studios we were again part of 18th street Open Studios weekend which about 33 studios were taking part and again was a great chance to increase the numbers of visitors. on the whole I had a great experience and met a lot of interesting people and made new good friends. I'll be back!!!!

PIQUE NIQUE by Cart Blanche

Cart Blanche is a ‘white cube’ on wheels or box-for-things-to-happen-in (or out of) and was launched by Lucia Cipriano, It has since shown works in various locations, street corners, and festivals such as F-EST in East London, and London Biennale 2006 events including Stu dio Ra Contemporary Art, in Rome. Her work takes parallel expression in art spaces as well as unofficial public and private places.

Cart Blanche had a show called PIQUE NIQUE in Cumria. Over 4 days, people were invited to contribute to a common gathering and roving feast.

we were the PIQUE NIQUE's participants:

The Lady of Chaos

The lady of Chaos was done for the back cover of The Oracle Occult Magazine issue No5 which were published in April. Its the first anniversary of The Oracle and it has an excellent selection of rare articles and artworks about occult.

I got the idea of chaos from watching too much video feedback by an artist Paul Prudence in Area 10, while being very drunk, a haunting and interesting experience, check out his website here: www.transphormetic.com

Bring me your Laundry!

Extremely organised madness which involved performance, art work, washing up and tea.
Everyone had to bring an item of clothing to be washed which they would get it at the end ironed and packed.
I was dressed up in my special costume and making sure everyone had an item to wash or they had to take one of mine, very cheeky indeed.
I enjoyed their shocking faces...

What is to be a woman today?

On the 8th of March the national women's day I had the chance to be
part of an amazing group of of female artists in a workshop to create an installation that was organised by StoneCrabs .

The workshop leader was the magical Tereza Araujo, she was using the Augusto Boal's theatre techniques.As we were all unfamiliar with each other it helped us to be connected and made us ready to work on the installation as a group.
In this full day workshop we worked together so well that it could only be some kind of magic.We had a great fun doing all kind of theatrical activities which we learn to support and understand one another and did all kind of fun games.

Our installation showed the image of the woman today.
we used different object available also our texts and audio about women's image.
We made the entrance to the installation through a cloths rail ,a perfect entrance as it suggested entering into another world, you could See different elements of domestic image including an ironing board with an electric saw instead of the iron on the top showing the other image of women as well as house wives .
In the main part of our installation a mirror stood in the middle where the texts on the wall and our audio sound combined , reflecting our perception of the modern female image .

Artist In Exile's Waiting Room Exhibition 2004-2005

Here are two paintings that I got the chance to scan recently.The first one up is " The Veiled Woman and a Dove " and the second one is " Woman and a Parrot". I had two more paintings in the exhibition which I didn't get the chance to scan them .

There were Six more artists from AIE exhibiting their works: Martha Elsesser, George Berberian, Marina Gordan, Mohamed Bushara, Margareta Kern, Suzana Tamamovic. The works were all very interesting and different in style which also included installation and sculptures.

The exhibition was Curated by Asako Yokoya from 198 Gallery and Caryne Chapman Clark , and was funded by The Funding Network.

It was a touring exhibition in four Surgeries in North and East London which started from September 2004 and finished in December 2005.The works were all fited into wooden boxes which made it easy to be transported, same boxes are being used for The Waiting Room Exhibition in Oxford at the moment with different artist .

It was a very successful exhibition and a very different approach to exhibiting art in public places and we had such a great feedback from the paitients in the surgeries which many of the were suprised by finding an exhibition in their surgeries.

Here is a paragraph from the press release:

"The range of different work exhibited here explores a variety of ideas arising out of the paradox of being entrapped and liberated at the same time in the search for a new home in a new country. The desire and longing for the familiar in a foreign place, the nostalgia and homesickness for what is no longer, the reclaiming of personal spirit and individuality; these are all subjects touched on by the artists involved in this exhibition."

BBC London Family History Day Sunday 12th February at the British Library

There was an opportunity for me to exhibit some my work,in an exhibition in British Library's main hall ,for the BBC's Family History Day on Sunday 12th February.

It was a big event and many talks and workshops were taking place and apparently all of their tickets were sold out.

About 12 artists were taking part in this exhibition and they all had family related works which many of them were photographic work. It was a very interesting exhibition and had a nice variety.

I displayed a nice collection of prints, which my Grandfather's ghost was the major work that I had actually finished for this event.I gathered the works that were related to my family , which in some cases I never imagined them to be, and discovered their relation just before the exhibition which amazed me very much and decided to include them .

They were all given titles and I came up with some description about them which might offend some of the family members , but I enjoyed the whole process and realised new things about some of my old paintings.

The only shame was that I couldn't be there during the whole event and there for couldn't get any feedback from the viewers

When I decided to paint " My Grandfather's Ghost " I knew exactly how I wanted it done.This his first portrait I have done in years, I was about seven or eight when I drew his profile with his eyes shut ,and did a few unfinished works when he was alive.

I imagined him in his usual spot, watching in TV , as he didn'thave many other options in his last years,I think he is watching an action history film. Historical films and book used to absorb him so much as he would become part of the their reality.

Having endless tea and sweets was his greatest childlike desire, which was normally interrupted by my grandmother's lethal nagging techniques, that was whenever she felt that he is going to have a sugar over dose; although he never had a blood sugar problem in his entire life.

While painting him, I felt so close to him and even felt his presence, he was smiling at me right through the painting and I could see with every little touch of pencil his figure would totally change the pose.
